Heywood Williams Window Handles

Heywood Williams have been making commercial and domestic
windows for many years and a lot of these were fitted in
Schools, Colleges, Hospitals, Social Housing, Civic Buildings etc.
A great deal of these 30 - 40 year old windows are still in service.
Below is a selection of some of the handles fitted to the earlier series.
I will do the rest of what we have, next time.

Pace 340 and Pace 620.

Pace Architectural was based in West Bromwich for many years
and was then acquired by Caldwell Hardware, who took on
board the range of fittings they made.
This included the now, industry standard folding openers,
along with Spring Catches, Pivots, Locking Units, Hinges,
Handles and a range of "Fireman's Axe" fittings.

I took on board the Fireman's Axe fittings, Handles and
Locking units, some time ago and a good part of
the range is still produced.

The detail below shows a Pace 340 Locking unit
and a 620 Handle.

I will do more Pace fittings, another time.

Purpose made Hinges.

Over the next few posts, I am going to feature some of the
purpose made hinges that we have made.

If an old door or window is in a sorry state, it is very difficult
to get it operating correctly, if replacement parts don't fit properly.
Perhaps the most important things are the hinges, as other parts
can be retro-fitted if the opening light swings and closes as it should.
Fitting something that is close, more often than not, causes more
problems than it solves.

So, with this in mind, wherever possible, we will make replica's,
so that all the engineer has to do is remove the old and tired
hinges and fit the new ones.

Tomorrow I will feature another purpose made hinge.

Custom Brass Hinges.

This is one of the latest jobs I have been on.

Custom brass replica hinges for a steel window job, over in Ireland.
If you scroll down a little, you will see the job that they refer to.

The hinges, from a distance, looked like a standard 1260 W20
type but once removed, it is quite clear that they are not.

Slight issues with access means that a "fit it quick" solution was
required, as messing around trying to mackle something else
into position, is not the way to go.

Next week, I'll detail another hinge replica job.
