Metal Window Handle Repair and the big sort out.

Still lots of clearing being done and finding all
sorts of things that I haven't seen for years!

This was a simple job, that I did today.

This is it as it was.

This is it repaired!
I took the handle below, off it's back-plate and fitted it onto
the the back-plate that was sent.

This will do the job, keeping the window secure.

Just a simple case of three screws to fit.

Crittall Windows, Steel Windows, Metal Windows.

Whatever you want to call them - they have been around
for quite a long time now and over the years, many different
types of Handles, Stays, Hinges, Pivots and other fittings,
have been produced to satisfy the requirements of that
period  in the life of a steel window.

The Art Deco period had different fittings to the earlier
Victorian and Edwardian frames and as the years progressed
through the 40's and 50's and then onto the 60's, 70's and 80's
different fittings were produced to be "of that period".

So, a new year - stock-taking to be done and there are tins and
tins like this, full of goodies.

These are part of a vast amount of Crittall and Steel Window fittings, that were
acquired just over 10 years ago.
This is what it looked like when we went to collect it.
It was Very Very heavy!!!

This is just part of another purchase, made around 5 years ago.
That was also Very heavy!!

When people ask about fittings for windows, their comment is usually
"well there can't be that many different parts - surely"!!

There are!!

If you want to talk parts for Steel Windows, Metal Windows, Crittall
Windows - whatever you choose to call them - I speak the language!

Replica Window Keeps

Another relatively straightforward job.

Keeps for a locking system on timber windows.

Some were broken, some were missing - that was all that was wrong
with the operation of the window, everything else was fine.

So, just a case of undoing three screws, removing the old one,
fit the new one, job done.

Simple but effective.

Window Stay Plunger - Captive Stay Box.

This is a job I did some time ago but couldn't
find the images!!

This is known as a Captive Stay Box, although
it is more often referred to as a Stay Plunger.

The original ones, after around 30 years of service,
were worn and damaged, so replacements were
made in brass and plated.

Window Winder Gearbox

Another challenge!

I call this type of winding system "Newman Gear".
It's just a generic name I use, as that was the first
type I came across.

There were many other companies that did this type
of thing and one of the component parts came to me
earlier on this year.

There were several on the site but one of these was missing.
This job was to create another one.

This was the result.

The completed item, ready to be fitted.
